It is important for your plants to have the best envoironment to grow in. This means they got to make some friends along the way or they will be subject to some bullying, in the form of dangerous bacteria and fungi. Luckily, our cococoir offers some organic backup to help protect your plants. Below is a brief outline of some of the things you are likely to come across in our product range.

Trichoderma Harzianum

Coco Coir is naturally rich in Trichoderma Harzianum, a microorganism that fights root rot and stimulates the growth of your plant. To explain, trichoderma harzianum is a fungus that protects your plant roots from soil-borne bacteria and pathogenic fungi that are dangerous to plants.

It does this by colonizing the plants roots before other fungi get the chance, then it feeds off the plants waste products and also off other fungi. This allows the plants roots to concentrate on growing and becoming stronger. Trichoderma harzianum is present in all our coco coir products.

Perlite

Perlite is volcanic glass heated at such a high temperature that it pops creating lots of minute air bubbles on its surface making it super light. These tiny moisture absorbing cells on its surface make it great at getting moisture to your plant roots yet as it is porous it allows water to drain away perfectly.

Perlite is sterile and has a neutral PH balance so it won’t cause any upset to your plants.

Endomycorrhizae

Endomycorrhizae is a fungus, like that of Trichoderma Harzianum, it colonises your plant roots and works to protect them from other fungi. What is different about Endomycorrhizae is that it does not just work from outside the plant roots but inside the root cells themselves. This is a mutually beneficial relationship, as the plant feeds the endomycorrhizae what it doesn’t need anymore and the fungus protects roots, as well as feeding them valuable nutrients from its surroundings.

It has even been claimed that the natural development of endomycorrhizae aided the move of plants onto land, totally reshaping world’s landscape. If this fungus can do that to the world, think what it could do for your plants.

Bat Guano

Bat guano is bat excrement that happens to be a fantastic plant fertiliser and of course 100% organic. It is high in nitrogen, potassium and phosphate. Plants either require more nitrogen or more potassium than any other nutrient, depending on the plant. But one thing is for sure, plants love it!

Conservation programs all over the world see the importance of guano producing birds and bats and have used them as a driving force in ensuring a healthier ecosystem. You can do the same with our Pure Superior coco peat, which is enriched with perlite, endomycorrhizae, worm humus and bat guano.

These natural enhancers will mean you will not have to apply any fertilisers for the first couple of weeks. Your plants will be fed these nutrients directly from the cocopeat.

Worm  Humus

Worm humus or worm castings is the breakdown of organic material into more organic material. The end product, the worm humus, is proven to condition your medium, lowering contaminants in your soil or coir products and raising the nutrient level. This makes for an all round healthier medium and a healthier plant. It also improves water holding capacity.
